Teach your child how to organize his things

Children are naturally curious. They easily get interested with the things they see. If they see their father pulling out a book from his bookcase for kids, he will definitely want to know what his father is up to. You can't blame him for wanting to get the same book from his father's shelf. That will be alright if he returns the book in one piece or if he ever returns it. In most cases, once your child found out that there's nothing in the book but words, they won't mind where they leave it.

This is not something new. A Child usually leaves his things once he loses interest. Ask him where he left his toy and he will seldom remember where he left it.

Teaching your child how to organize his things is tough but it can be done. It only needs patience and constant reminder. Make the learning experience fun for them. Provide materials that he can use while cleaning up without boring him. Get him a colorful laundry basket. He will definitely want to place his shirt in an exciting looking basket. You can also get him one of those kids bookshelve to facilitate the organization of his books and other reading materials.

You can start by teaching him where to put his things. You can probably start with his toys. Keep in mind to do it one at a time because he might get overwhelmed with the task you are giving him and he may not get it done. Start by designating an area for each of his toy. Let him know where he is supposed to place his toy truck after he plays with them. Expect him to do as he is asked for a while and will forget after quite some time. Make sure that he makes organizing his toys a habit. You can use a reward system to aid his training. Tell him that he will get a surprise if he maintains the orderliness of his room.

After he makes a habit of storing his toys, you can start teaching him with organizing his clothes. You can fold his shirt with him and instead of nagging about how messy his closet is; make it a fun learning experience. Direct him to group his shirt by colors and check how well he does in the activity. Teach him to segregate his clothes. Teach him which ones to hang and which ones to fold. Direct where to put his pants, his socks, his books and the rest of his belongings. If he finds out how difficult it is to arrange his things, then he would less likely make a mess out of it, especially if you give him the impression that organizing his closet is part of his assignments.

You can get kids bookshelf to arrange his stuff. Although these shelves are primarily designed to contain books, you can use available space for his other things. You can place his art materials or stuff toys there. Your child's room will be more organized and the space will be appropriately used.
