Instil Positive Reading Habits on your Kid

If your kid would rather play video games or run around the house all day long than flip a book, something’s not right. While there’s nothing wrong with an occasional video game, provided that it’s something educational, and running around the house is a pretty good exercise for your kid’s muscles, it is still a serious problem if you can never get him to read or even browse at his books.

Fortunately, there are ways to encourage positive reading habits on your kid. Reading books is after all one of the most important learning methods that your kid will learn a vast of knowledge from.

First of all, never force him to read. Don’t overload him with truckloads of books and coerce him to become a bookworm. That will make reading a chore instead of a fun learning activity.

Instead give books that will tickle his fancy. If he’s more into sports and physical activities, show him books showing photos of athletes and games. If he’s into science, lure him with fun filled scientific books. Also, be sure to give books that have lots of visual images for they are yet ready to appreciate books with heavy texts.

It is also necessary to set up a comfortable reading area where your kid will have fun reading. A well lit room with a desk and a chair is a good reading place. It is also a great idea to position his reading place near his kids bookcase for easy access of the books.

Speaking of bookcases for kids, it is important to have a nice kids bookshelf where he can organize his books and keep his other stuff as well.

Select a bookcases furniture that have attractive graphics on it for this will motivate him to read and inspire his creative imagination. The KidKraft Firehouse Bookcase with its firehouse detailed graphic prints will surely engage your kid into reading his books and be a charming addition to his study room or bedroom.

Reading with your kid and making it a fun bonding time for the both of you also cultivate positive reading habits in your child. If he associates reading with having fun with her mom or dad, it won’t be hard for him to enjoy reading even by himself.

Instilling good reading habits in your kid is not an easy task. It takes a lot of hard work and perseverance from your part. But once you see the joy and amazement in your child’s face as he browses through his books and his healthy mental development, you’ll know that all your patience and efforts have paid off.
